A glitch in the self-assessment online service means that if a taxpayer has filed an original return and an amended return, it is no longer possible to log back into the service. The HMRC Online Services Helpline has advised that their IT partners have identified the underlying problem and a fix will be implemented at the beginning of November.
In the interim, individuals are not able to amend or print returns, check their account or print down tax calculations. Given HMRC encourage taxpayers to file online, this is hardly satisfactory.
